Is AP Research the same as a normal research paper?

It uses research-paper skills, but it is more sustained. Your question, method, findings, limitations, and presentation all need to connect.

What should I do if my evidence does not prove what I expected?

Report the findings honestly, then revise the conclusion and limitations. In research, an unexpected result is not a failure if you explain it clearly.
