Privacy at BetterPaper
Student version
Your assignment text is for helping you understand the prompt. It is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train models.
What happens to your data
You paste an assignment
BetterPaper uses the prompt to create planning help for that assignment.
We store what is needed
Signed-in accounts keep assignments, planning materials, sources, and timestamps.
Some things expire
Anonymous homepage assignments are deleted after 7 days.
You can delete work
Dashboard deletions sit in Recently deleted for 30 days, then are gone for good.
What we store
Your email address.
Your date of birth, so we can confirm you are 13 or older.
The assignment text you paste in.
The planning materials we generate from that assignment.
Sources you add to an assignment while signed in.
Time stamps for when you used the tool.
What we never store in error reports
When something breaks on BetterPaper, we get an automatic crash report so we can fix it. Before that report leaves our servers, we strip out the text of your assignment and any rubric you pasted. Our crash reports carry the fact that an error happened, not what you were working on.
Deletion and retention
Anonymous use
If you use the homepage without an account, we delete your assignment after 7 days.
Deleted assignments
If you delete an assignment from your dashboard, it sits in Recently deleted for 30 days. Then it is gone for good.
How to delete your account
Go to Account, then Delete account. We immediately delete every assignment, planning material, and source you saved. We delete your account record too. There is no waiting period and no recovery.
Who can see your work
Only you. We do not share your writing with advertisers, other students, teachers, schools, or any third party. We do not train our AI models on your writing. Our team reads anonymized samples only when we are investigating a specific bug you reported.
